MY FAVE Interior Design + COLOR Trends for 2025

Hey there, trendsetters! As we step into 2025, it's time to revamp our spaces and infuse them with some fresh energy. Whether you're selling a home or just looking to give your place a chic makeover, understanding the latest design trends is fun. Let’s dive into the hottest home design trends for this year, complete with colors, simple tips for incorporation, and the best remodeling moves that won't break the bank.

Color Trends

Bold and Earthy Tones

This year, we’re seeing a shift towards rich, earthy colors. Think deep terracotta, moss greens, and burnt sienna—perfect for creating a warm, inviting atmosphere. These hues can be easily integrated into your space through accent walls, decorative pillows, or even statement furniture pieces. Those who know me, know that I gravitate towards brighter, richer colors. But even I have just brought in a soft mocha velvet loveseat into my office. It feels warm and comfy - and I’m into it. And of course, this harkens back to the Pantone Color of the year: Mocha Mousse.

Soft Pastels

On the flip side, soft pastels are making a comeback! Light lavender, pale mint, and buttery yellows can add a fresh touch to any room. Consider painting kitchen cabinets in a soft pastel shade for an unexpected yet stylish twist. This is part of a larger “Candy Culture” trend - which is all about playful, whimsy, sweetness (think cotton candy and Necco wafers!). I personally like a bright neon - and think it pairs gorgeously with a neutral.

Interior Design Trends

Sustainable Materials

Sustainability is more than just a buzzword; it’s a lifestyle. In 2025, expect to see a rise in the use of eco-friendly materials. Bamboo flooring, recycled glass countertops, and reclaimed wood for furniture are all fantastic choices. Not only do they look great, but they also reduce your carbon footprint. I personally love thrifting and finding gently loved items from Nextdoor, Facebook Marketplace and the like.  Not only is it a fun way to find something unique, but also saves money! I also adore shopping at Vintage Pink, Urbanite, Memory Den and more.

Artisanal Touches

Handcrafted items are in vogue! Incorporating artisanal elements—like unique pottery, woven textiles, or custom furniture—can add character to your space. Visit local markets or explore online artisans to find one-of-a-kind pieces that resonate with your style.

Some of my favorites are the bows (and snakes!) and Carter + Rose, Knotty Pine for interior design, and woonwinkle for all the most colorful treasures.

Sustainability and Artisanal touches work together in a way termed “New Luxurian” - I really resonate with this because it’s smart, supports local businesses and craftspeople, and can create an incredibly personal vibe.

Biophilic Design

Plant lovers unite!! Bringing the outdoors in is a trend that’s here to stay, and it goes both ways! In 2025, biophilic design is all about creating a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor spaces. Think large sliding glass doors that open up to patios or balconies adorned with lush greenery. Also - just creating more space for plants and fauna/flora focused design themes. I always loved my Grandma's atrium! And love those MCM homes with the built-in planters.

Multi-Functional Spaces

With remote work becoming a norm, creating multi-functional spaces is key. Think about designing a cozy nook that serves as both an office and a reading area. Use stylish dividers to create distinct zones without losing an open feel. Think built-in storage that better utilizes your square footage.

Tile Trends for Bathrooms and Backsplashes

When it comes to bathroom design and kitchen backsplashes, tile is a fantastic way to make a bold statement. Here are some of the top tile trends for 2025:

(notice a mix of earth tones + candy crush too!)

Geometric Patterns

Geometric tiles are making waves! Whether it's hexagons, chevrons, or herringbone patterns, incorporating these shapes can add depth and visual interest to your space. Consider using them as a feature wall in your shower or as a backsplash behind your sink.

Large Format Tiles

Large format tiles are not only trendy but they also create a sleek and modern look. They can make a small space feel larger and minimize grout lines. For bathrooms, opt for large porcelain tiles on the floors or walls for a luxurious feel. I also like the idea of using large format stone looking tiles as a backsplash (much more affordable than real stone!).

Textured Tiles

Textured tiles are perfect for adding dimension. From 3D tiles to rough-hewn finishes, these can create a tactile experience that is both visually appealing and functional. They work beautifully as a backsplash in the kitchen or as a focal point in the bathroom.

Home Exterior Paint in 2025

When it comes to the exterior of your home, the right color can make a world of difference. And since you’ll be living with the color for about a decade, it should be something you are not likely to grow tired of (also consider home colors of your neighbors!).

In 2025, we’re seeing some exciting color trends that enhance curb appeal while reflecting personal style. Here are the top color trends for home exterior paint this year:

Earthy Neutrals

Earthy tones like warm taupes, soft greys, and muted olive greens are gaining popularity. These colors blend beautifully with natural surroundings and create a calming effect. They are perfect for homeowners who want a timeless look that feels grounded and inviting.

Rich Jewel Tones

If you’re looking to make a statement, consider rich jewel tones such as emerald green, sapphire blue, or deep burgundy. These bold colors can add a luxurious touch to your home’s exterior. A front door or window trim painted in a jewel tone can create a stunning contrast against a more neutral base.

Soft Pastels

Soft pastels are not just for interiors; they’re making their way to the exterior as well! Shades like blush pink, powder blue, and mint green can add a charming, whimsical feel to your home. They work particularly well in coastal or vintage-style homes.

Crisp Whites and Off-Whites

A classic choice, crisp whites and off-whites are always in style. They provide a fresh, clean look and can make your home appear larger. To add depth, consider pairing white with darker accents, such as a charcoal grey or navy blue trim.

Bold Accents

This year, the trend is also leaning towards bold accent colors for details like shutters, doors, and trim. Think bright yellows, fiery reds, or vibrant blues to create focal points that draw the eye. These accents can be especially striking against a more subdued main color.

Dark and Moody Hues

For those who prefer a more dramatic look, dark and moody colors like charcoal, deep navy, or forest green are trending. These shades can create a sophisticated atmosphere and work beautifully with modern architectural styles. Just be sure to balance with ample natural light and landscaping!

Choosing the right color for your home’s exterior is a significant decision that can enhance its overall aesthetic and value. Embrace these 2025 color trends to create a look that is both stylish and reflective of your personality. Whether you go for earthy neutrals or bold accents, your home will surely stand out in the neighborhood!

I'm considering a color palette for both my next project (creamy white and a soft pastel door is the current thought) and my own home (deep and moody blue on blue, perhaps?).

Best Remodeling Moves for Bang for Your Buck

As you consider staying in your home - or perhaps getting it ready to sell (and don't forget, I can help you with this!!), here are some remodeling tips for getting the most bang for your buck.

  1. Kitchen Refresh: Instead of a full remodel, consider updating cabinet hardware, adding a stylish backsplash, or replacing outdated fixtures. These small changes can elevate your kitchen without costing a fortune. PLUS - this is a more sustainable option. I have been researching DIY projects to update cabinets too...

  2. Bathroom Update: Swap out old vanities for modern ones or replace shower curtains with glass doors. These upgrades can make your bathroom feel luxurious and modern. I also like to update an old faucet and cabinetry hardware.

  3. Outdoor Living Spaces: Invest in outdoor furniture or create a fire pit area. Enhancing your backyard can extend your living space and is perfect for entertaining! If you have a neighbors garage wall that faces your yard, perhaps a mural would be a fun way to add flair?

  4. Lighting Upgrades: Replace old light fixtures with trendy pendant lights or chandeliers. Lighting can dramatically alter the mood of a space and is an easy DIY project. Not sure how to change a fixture? Perhaps you can take a class at Make With (and learn a new skill while saving some money). Or you can try a cute conversion kit - this one is speaking to me.

Final Thoughts

As we embrace 2025, remember that your home should reflect your unique style - and trends are just something that may inspire us. Don’t be afraid to mix and match styles, colors, and textures. The key is to create a space that feels authentically you. Happy decorating, and here’s to making your home all about YOU (unless you plan to sell - then call me before you do anything!!).
